I am starting a magazine. Weird right?
My explanation of why I am doing this had to be short for various social media platforms, this is the full explanation
The covid years killed my passion for photography. It wasn't just the disease and the fear of having people around, but also an overwhelming feeling that nobody in my life supported my photographic goals. I felt alone, and rather than do what I loved, I started letting it go.
I shot no pinups and 5 portrait sessions from 2020 to 2026. I had ideas, things I wanted to do, but the desire to do them waned.
In 2025 I got the idea for the magazine. I talked about it with several friends who do photography. I started to work on the idea and I chickened out multiple times. I had too many voices in my head telling me to step back.
This year I decided to move forward. I have something to prove to myself. It might not be looked on as a worthwhile pursuit by people in my circles, but it's for me. I want my creative outlet back.
I decided to put together this magazine to accomplish several things.
First, to create and share the art of photography from me and some of my friends who shoot.
My work will focus on my style of pinup photography. I have gone back through my personal photographic history and looked at the images that I am most proud of. I have a style I like and there are creative options I want to try.
I've been asked to describe the style of the magazine. It's for adults. We are not shying away from nudity, but it is also not the focus. I want the images to be artistic, not salacious, but I am not ruling out the inclusion of erotic images.
The 'Anastasia' shoot by Nigel Aves in the first issue pushes this line, but the images of her are beautiful and fully the choice of the model as the story will describe.
I describe all of this because what I am looking for in each of my sessions is what makes the model feel sexy. It might be as simple as nice clothes in a beautiful scene, or a tease with a shoulder strap from a dress, or it might be complete nudity.
I work with my models to design what we are going to shoot and what they are comfortable with. Their safety and dignity are my primary concern. We will also do in depth interviews with our models so they are seen clearly as people, not objects. I want you to know who they are and why they are in our magazine.
One other note, this isn't intended to be a 'girlie' magazine. Personally, I tend to only shoot with women, but I will be seeking out other photographers who photograph men, women and couples to present their work.
Second, I want to create 'think pieces' that I hope will help others to think more deeply about certain subjects. This is something I am still designing, but the objective is not to start argument or conversations. You won't find chat forums supported by us. THey are intended to get you to have a conversation with yourself.
We may have some other types or articles as well.
Third, to promote the art of other people who write, draw, create poetry and music. We may include pictures of flowrs, cool locations, nature. This magazine is not about rules. Whatever strikes us each month.
We just want to have a good time creating something fun and interesting.
Issue 1 comes out on July 18th, 2026. If you like what we do, keep coming back for the next issue.
We're having fun putting this together and creating something I hope people will enjoy.
