We used to stop at Avila Valley Barn in San Luis Obispo on a yearly family trip. This was the first time I visited with my new Canon 20D.

The problem at this location was that the Peacock was in a chicken wire cage. I had recently read about a technique where someone could shoot through these kinds of materials by getting really close.

The idea was to find a large gap and press against the fence. Get your focus on the subject and in theory the fence will not be a problem. For the most part, it was true. While there is some visible blur on the sides of the images from the fence, I was able to get past most of it and get my first cool shots of a Peacock.
