Everyone has seen the joke about waiters in LA who "really want to direct". It's a dream for many, but was never mine. Then I left LA for Las Vegas, Nevada.
I had been doing photography for my friend Warren Ross (a.k.a. Scorch The Clown), and he asked me if I could do some video for him too. I filmed his first self produced show at a local hookah bar. I also edited the show with material from other videographers at the show.
Then Scorch upped his game. He wanted to start a regular show called Playtime With Scorch
. Plans came together, and he asked me to direct and edit (voiceover too!) for him on the shows. I proceeded to do 6 of thirteen episodes for him. A more experienced person took over after episode 6, but I am very proud of what we achieved in those first 6 episodes.
Will I be stepping up onto the high plateau with Spielberg? Certainly not. Did I learn something about myself? Hell yeah! I am capable of so much more. I need to continue to explore this area. What will be the next opportunity?
In the meantime, here are my Directorial efforts in all their glory.
